Understanding UTM Parameters
utm_source identifies where the traffic originates, such as a search engine, newsletter, or social platform (e.g. google, facebook, mailchimp).
utm_medium identifies the marketing channel or type of link, such as cost-per-click, email, or social media (e.g. cpc, email, social).
utm_campaign identifies the specific campaign or promotion driving the traffic (e.g. spring_sale, product_launch, brand_awareness).
utm_term is used for paid search to identify the keyword or search term that triggered the ad. This is optional but useful for PPC campaigns.
utm_content differentiates similar content or links within the same campaign, such as different ad creatives or CTA buttons (e.g. banner_v1, sidebar_link).
